PHYSFILE configuration parm
Posted in 1996
Today I was experimenting with some configuration changes, and
encountered the following message in the Informix message log.
(Using Informix 7.10)
23:28:43 WARNING! Physical Log size 1000 is too small. Physical Log overflows may occur during peak activity.
Physical Log size should be increased to '4800' to guard against
physical log overflows.
Can anyone tell me more about this message? I can't find this message
listed in any manual. Also, how does Informix arrive at the "4800"
number for the physical log size in this message? The Admin manual
has a min guideline of 20*USERTHREADS and the default is 1000. What info
is being used to make this statement about "4800"??
Another question I have is why the physical log size should be any
bigger than the number of BUFFERS -- isn't the physical log just the
unmodified copy of what is in the page buffers before either a
checkpoint or the page buffer is otherwise written to disk?
Thanks for the pointers,
dan.
