Hello list: Can anyone help me? I have the code for a program that was written in C using the Illustra database for the UNIX platform, and I would like to make it run using the Informix Database software on a Windows NT platform. I have Informix software and MS Visual Studio software installed using Windows NT v4 sp6. The code includes a GNU makefile. How can I make the program run? I am a graduate student in the Department of Geography, University of Colorado, Boulder. I would like to test the program for my Master's research. Although I have some programming experience, I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to port the program to an NT platform. A description of my research can be found at http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~sandrew. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Andrew Smith -- Andrew Smith sandrew@ucsu.colorado.edu

You'll have to be more specific about the problems that you have (and probably try different newsgroups as well.) Generally speaking, you _cannot_ expect unix programs to be simply rebuilt on nt, the APIs are too different. NT does have the so-called posix subsystem, but it's a very old posix that they support (1 ? can't remember) and the odds are you'll need to port this software of yours. "Port" like in "partially re-write." As far as you gnu makefile, makes are nearly standard, so that you'll port without major difficulty.
So, despite the inherent difficulties, the question remains: can anyone help me do this? Andrew. -- Andrew Smith sandrew@ucsu.colorado.edu
