Oracle doesn't do that. They sell themselves as a solution to a business problem. I wish Informix would learn that less. >- they both write manuals that don't even fit on my hard disk. in fact, I >use the >oracle paper manuals to heighten up my monitor... Well, at least you're getting something out of them. And my Informix manuals fit quite comfortably on my laptop's drive, and I have all sorts of other things on there. :-) >- they both use terms that tend to mystify things instead of clear them up, Er...pass! >so everyone that finally understands it has the feeling of being very, very >wise. > ( Informix is worse in that. I get scared when I read the informix >manuals. Who >makes up those horrible datablade names ? Who invented the word Third Party Vendors generally make up the DataBlade names, so you can't blame Informix for that. :-) As to the term Datablade, it's no different from plugin or widget or whatever. I mean, which idiot dreamed up the term "ActiveX" or OLE or OLEDB...I generally find Informix manuals wonderful. But maybe I'm just used to them. >"DataBlade" anyway ..Its just a plugin ! an extra. a module. a component) >- they're both huge. There's only a few companies I can think of that >really need that kind of a solution. Informix actually used to be tiny, in the old days (1990) an entire installation of all tools and the server would fit into 6MB. It's only since they started GLS support that it got so bloated. I would happily support a Jihad to get a non-GLS install out of Informix. >and apparently, they both have a religious usergroup, willing to go on >crusade and flame the mailinglist bouncing their chests. It was all quite amicable until personal abuse appeared. I'm all for freedom of speech, but you don't find me taking people to task for poor use of grammar or spelling. It doesn't add any value. And it is sad, but techies do enjoy proseletyzing their chosen technological platform. If you think we're bad, you should see the Pick lot -- they're the worst! :-) And the Perl proponents. And...well, I'm sure you get the idea. >that's my 2 cents ... sorry bout that :-) Well spent, I reckon. :) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
