Running reports on a transaction system destroys performance and is why the datawarehouse concept started. But then Crystal and the rest of the report type products are kind of a scam in my opinions (blowing very hard in articles on www.sofbot.com). Thanks to others comments and my own, here is a summary of some changes that can be done to help performance of Crystal: > don't run reports at all (re-evaluate business needs). Best performance. > change reports schedules to non peak use time. > Analyze the SQL for bad performance, add indexes, etc. (you did update statistics, yes?) > Separate report users from transaction users to restrict grants to data and set isolation level to dirty read. (a lock problem was described) > Replicate report tables and run Crystal on a separate machine or database. > Get rid of crystal and use other methods to report. (www.sofbot.com articles) > Set up a data warehouse. -- --------------------------------------------------------- Steven Hauser email: hause011@tc.umn.edu URL: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~hause011 ---------------------------------------------------------
