Nils, Any one or more of the following may explain why your performance can be 10 seconds from a distance that is 30,000,000+ feet from Informix in Menlo Park, but from the Menlo Park area I loaded the same page in 12x+ the speed = 125 seconds. #1. your pages could be cached at a gateway to your own corporate location, you knew this was a possiblity, right? #2. your pages could be cached by your ISP, you knew about this too, right? #3. the Informix pages could be cached by one of the Internet backbone cache servers - I know you knew about these babies, right? #4. Informix may have multiple distributed Web servers to improve performance throughout the world, of course your understanding of web servers and distributing large web sites would make you aware of these too, right? #5. the Informix Web page could be cached on your own browser/hardware, there is no way you could have missed something as embarassing as this one, right? right? no, is this true? #6. your time of usage and your ISP/Internet connection may be providing you with a rather unique combination of speed, well, I might discount this possibility given some simple time-zone math, but did you think about this, of course, right? #7. you have a faster ISP connection/less congestion, I can believe this one, but did you think of this, of course, right? Now some combination of #1 to #7 may explain the performance differences you will see to any Web site. Now if Informix chooses to place large graphics on their home page then they have made the decision that many users will see slow performance when loading their home page - that was Informix's decision. As for you asking that everyone sign off the Internet and stop using Informix's Web server so that you can benchmark how fast the Informix Web server is with one user, that may be your bizarre understanding of how to respond to an inquiry about the speed of accessing WWW.INFORMIX.COM, which is reflected completely in your responses too. The next time you need an enterprise database, I have this awesome dBase solution that I'll sell to "just you" for just $250,000, I can show that with one user accessing one record at 02:00 GMT that it is really fast. Why do you waste your time with Informix when you are such an idiot? dBase is perfect for you, I mean, you may have to push your brain a bit to decide on how to open the dBase shrinkwrap, and I know putting the 3.5" diskettes into the drive may be a major task for you, but I'll step you through the process.
