Migrating databases

I am in the process of migrating our databases from our IBM ESS to a new IBM DS4800. As we are 24x7 minimizing downtime is important. Based on past posts I decided to use the mirroring approach to moving the data: mirror all the dbspaces to the new drives, take the engine offline, rename the chunks, bring the instance back on line and break the mirrors. My practice attempts all seemed to go well and I didn't run into any issues, but I was wondering if anyone had actually used this methodology in the past and had some opinions as to why I should or should not use this approach. Any insight would be appreciated. AIX 5.3 & IDS 9.40.FC7 AIX 5.2 & IDS 9.40.FC2 Thanks, Dan _________________________________________________________________ Try Search Survival Kits: Fix up your home and better handle your cash with Live Search! http://imagine-windowslive.com/search/kits/default.aspx?kit=improve&locale=en-US &source=hmtagline
A methodology I've recommended many times. Works great. Art S. Paul - I have dual fiber paths into the ESS. We take one of the paths and attach it to the switches connecting the ds4800. So the server has a path to both farms. The mirroring across the paths leaves the original database on the ESS and creates the mirrors on the ds4800. Perhaps I was unclear, the server itself will not change, just the farm where the databases reside. Does that make any more sense? Thanks Art and Paul for your input. The whole process makes so much sense and works so smoothly I was struck with a sudden feeling of "can it really be this easy?"
