Beta-test for index check
Posted in 1996
Hi all,
I'm looking for a few people, who have problems with their
indexes and who have enough time to test my program.
I will send you the program in source code, but before I
release the program to this newsgroup I want to make sure
that it will work fine.
Short description:
* Search for indexes, that will not be used for a WHERE-clause,
even if you compare all indexed columns to a specific value.
create index idx01 on t1 ( f1, f2 );
select .... where f1 = 9 and f2 = 3;
* Check the order of the indexed attributes. Because the optimizer
only looks for the selectivity of the first indexed column, I
believe that this could result in a wrong query plan, if you
place more selective columns at the second, third, aso. position.
The program checks, if there is a seperate index on the more
selective column, and if so, it will not show a message.
* Checks, if you need an UPDATE STATISTICS for a table.
This program will take at least the same time, as an ordinary
UPDATE STATISTICS. That's the reason why you will need some time.
Interested ?
Send me a short reply. I'm back on Friday and will send the
source code ( ESQL/C and/or 4GL ) to you a.s.a.p.
Bye,
Stefan
