Data replication has two flavors: synchronous and now (for Informix) asynchronous. Synchrononous is the familiar two-phase commit in a distributed environment, where a transaction is applied only if all interconnect distributed sites accept the transaction. If any one site does not accept the transaction, the transaction is not replicated on any database server. Appropriate for applications that require immediate data synchronization, but prone to network outages, etc. Asynchronous data replication will commit the data at the originating site and queue the data for replication at other sites. The data will eventually synchronize at all sites. If a particular server's connection is down, the originating site's transaction is not affected. I don't know what other new stuff is in 7.2.2, the demo we had was for the purposes of demonstrating data replication. -- Carol Davies cdavies@csc.com
