onbar onarchive or ontape. Which one should we use for backups?
We use IDS 7.30 UC2
Thanks,
Isaac
If you don't really want to rely upon being able to restore your data, but
like wrestling with daggy, arcane software which forces you define the
location of everything at least twice and will in return reward you with
uninteligible and random messages, go for onarchive.
Otherwise, ontape.

Onarchive: This product is being phased out. The management files for it are contained within the SYSMASTER database; if you ever have to drop and rebuild that database (happens during informix upgrades from time to time), you just said "Bye Bye Bye" to your archive data. Ontape: The workhorse of Informix Archives. We still use it where I am and our production database is over 400 GB. Onbar: This is recommended for any system over 16 GB if you wish to perform a level 0 nightly. It will eventually require you to purchase a storage manager to work in conjunction with it as I have heard that the Informix Storage Manager (ISM) will be phased out. We are currently testing it at my company and have planned to start using it with our production system in a month's time. Hope this helps. Clifton M. I have been using Ontape and running it in the background (to disk) for more than a year for multiple instances, some over 200 GB in size, and have had no problems. I currently use an expect script to manage this and compress the files before sending them to our storage manager.
