RE: DHCP and D4GL WTK Client

Ron, I don't think you'll have to worry about the login authorization prompt being a hassle if you ensure that the D4GL server is not one of the DHCP clients. As Emmanuel Soden wrote in his response, once you answer yes to the prompt, it creates a line in %WINDIR%\\rhosts similar to the following: <D4GL server hostname> <username> He said it was IP address, but on my W2K client it writes the server's hostname. \\it won't matter if the PC gets a new DHCP lease, because the client IP address is only used to manage concurrent license usage, not login authorization. So the prompt will only happen if: - The user logs in on that client for the first time. - If the client's %WINDIR%\\rhosts file becomes corrupted for some reason. A wo-worker of mine also discovered that if the DHCP leased IP addresses are not resolvable in /etc/hosts (and/or I suspect the NIS hosts file) then the WTK client would take very long to complete the login, eventually giving a *hostname mismatch* error. So it may be necessary to enter the entire list of possible leased IP addresses into the D4GL server's /etc/hosts (or NIS). For my small site, this may be no hassle, but this is a horrible thing for a big site with Class B or more DHCP leases. A script to print all the possible leased IP addresses would need to be written. Can someone confirm if this is really needed? If you're on a PC and using the WTK client, you can run multiple sessions and only use one license - they are counted by the IP address. 2. If you're starting character-based sessions, each session will take a license, even if they're from telnets from the same PC. I'm not yet sure how to eliminate the login box. Perhaps it's a setting in the WTKSRV.INI file on the PC, but I haven't been able to figure it out. /Ron ________________________________________________________________________ Ron Flannery <mailto:rflanner@informixhandbook.com>, 248-887-8470x40 Lead author, Informix Handbook President, One Point Solutions "Your Complete Reference" "Informix & Web/Database solutions" http://www.informixhandbook.com http://www.one-point.com ________________________________________________________________________
