Informix 4GL conversion utilities? - Do they exist?

I work for a company that has developed packages in Informix 4GL for some time. I'm interested in finding out if there are programs that will allow you to convert an Informix 4GL program to another database language. Does something like this exist? I looked at the Informix FAQ and never saw a question like this. I would like to continue to develop Informix programs but would like some way to stay database vendor independent. I have powerbuilder and I know this would get me database independent - but it's like starting completely over. Another thing I've been thinking of: Is it possible to write code in some other language that will query an Informix database? This would keep users from running SQLTURBO processes until the time they wanted to do a query - thus keeping me within lower Informix license usage. I'm just interested in what others are doing.
