Veritas manages the installation and configuration of the volumes, but the device driver to which an application attaches handles the I/O requests. Limitations exit if you wish to use simple disc sections instead; inflexible layout, fixed section sizes, lack of mirroring (RAID) or striping, etc. Personally, I prefer HP-UX's Logical Volume Manager because it is robust and not so GUI. But, one must go to some extra lengths to achieve an effective striping and mirroring configuration using LVM. In either case, volume managers are the way to go for flexible system management. -- Mike J Oropeza ---------------------------------- Those who hear not the music - think the dancers mad ~{';'}~
