Hi all, I have one basic question about Informix. Do you need any special SQL interface to use Informix. How is it to use a "pure" C++ program and use it with Informix. We have a project where we need a database system to interact with a program coded in C++ (widgets made in QT). I have no experience with this any suggestions? In your opinion which is the best/easiest/cheapest of Informix/Oracle. thanks for you time -- Bård Farstad mail: bf@abn.hibu.no phone: +47 32 72 06 02

The Informix SDK contains ESQL/C and a library of C++ objects to aid using Embedded SQL in C++ programs. I do not use C++ for database projects myself, so I have not had a need to check it out, but reports are that the interface is a good one. > In your opinion which is the best/easiest/cheapest of Informix/Oracle. In my opinion Informix is Best and Easiest to install, tune, and use. I cannot address cost but in the grand scheme of things I doubt the price difference is worth the trouble of using Oracle. Art S. Informix ESQL/C creates 'C' files.. you can create a .cpp project and declare all of your Informix esql stuff as external 'C' so that you can mix the two. If you just want to get to the point heres a DLL written with MSVC6 and esql (used for a PowerBuilder interface) to handle most of the common functions.. let me know if you want the source code/project files. http://home.sprintmail.com/~mdeverett/infdll.htm Mike USol B'rd Farstad <bf@abn.hibu.no> wrote in message news:36CBFFFA.CFF26DB1@abn.hibu.no... >Hi all, > >I have one basic question about Informix. We have build a database abstraction layer written in c++ which use Informix-CLI (an ODBC interface) to interact with the Informix database. ODBC calls are embedded into c++ objects. This solution is working fine for us since we couldn't use ESQL/C (I beleive ESQL/C is faster than I-Connect). You can have a look also at http://www.informix.com/informix/products/gateconn/ to see which Informix product you could use.
