PHP Informix connect Question, or wtf is /opt/informix/etc/sqlhosts?

Hi all, I've managed to install the Informix SDK on a RH 6.2 linux box, and get PHP compiled to support it. However, when I try to connect to an Informix database on a remote server (AIX 4.2.1, with an old version of informix online 5.02), I get an error which translates to "invalid entry in sqlhosts file" with finderr. I've checked out the file, but it's not clear to me how it should be organized. I don't think it's a PHP problem, so I've brought my question here... I keep getting: "Warning: ifx_connect : E [SQLSTATE=IX 001 SQLCODE=-1829] in /home/httpd/html/informixtest.php on line 14" When I run finderr, it says unknown message 1829, which is probably due to the fact that this version of Online is so old. Supposedly the 9.2 SDK can connect to informix Online 5.02. My /opt/informix/etc/sqlhosts looks like: secure.secmgmt.com onsoctcp secure.secmgmt.com dbservice Does anyone know what the service should actually be in /etc/services? I have: dbservice 1525/tcp , but I'm not sure that's right or even if the client or server really needs it. I just plugged in what my "Informix Unleashed" book says. Thanks in advance, Zack

Sqlhosts syntax should be:
<INFORMIXSERVER> <PROTOCOL_NAME> <HOSTNAME> <SERVICE_NAME>
For example, I have the following on computer:
INFORMIXSERVER: ol_world
PROTOCOL: onsoctcp
HOSTNAME: world ( host on which INFORMIXSERVER is running )
SERVICE_NAME: dbservice
The string in my sqlhosts should be:
ol_world onsoctcp world dbservice

You should also verify that the service number is uniq and the service name
also.

Thanks for the response. I made the changes, but am still having trouble
connecting. What is the error 1829? I can't find it with finderr.

For Informix the -1829 error is described as follow
-1829 Cannot open file citoxmsg.pam.
The file citoxmsg.pam is missing from the directory $INFORMIXDIR/msg.
If this error occurs, please note all circumstances and contact Informix
Technical Support.
