Shared Memory Initialisation Problem

Hello all,
Could anyone shed light on why I get the following messages in the
online.log file every time I try to bring Informix on-line or to
quiescent mode from off-line.
15:32:36 shmget: [EEXIST][17]: key 52644801: shared memory alreadyexists
15:32:36 mt_shm_init: can't create resident segment
No matter how I shutdown the DB, for example from on-line to quiescent
or directly to off-line (all using onmode), I am unable to restart it.
The only solution I have found is to restart the entire system.
My pressing problem is that after initiating a cold, full system
restore, the DB was unable to come back up as part of the process:
15:16:55 Physical Restore of dbspc1, dbspc2, dbspc3 started.
15:17:07 Physical Restore of dbspc1, dbspc2, dbspc3 Completed.
15:17:08 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
15:33:44 Shutdown Mode
15:33:45 Quiescent Mode
15:34:07 INFORMIX-OnLine Stopped.
15:37:23 shmget: [EEXIST][17]: key 52644801: shared memory alreadyexists
15:37:23 mt_shm_init: can't create resident segment
We restarted the system and when Informix tried to come up we received
the following errors:
15:55:17 INFORMIX-OnLine Initialized -- Shared Memory Initialized.
15:55:17 Physical Recovery Started.
15:55:23 Physical Recovery Complete: 368 Pages Restored.
15:55:23 Logical Recovery Started.
15:55:23 Checkpoint Record not Found in Logical Log.
15:55:24 Cannot Rollforward from Checkpoint.
15:55:24 INFORMIX-OnLine Stopped.
15:55:24 mt_shm_remove: WARNING: may not have removed all/correctsegments
Can anyone help me fix this problem? Logical log backups have not been
made because the data is all relatively easy to recreate.
Our Informix version is INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server 7.12.UC1 running
on Solaris 2.5 on a SPARC system.
Most of the settings, inc. shared memory are the defaults.
Thanks in advance,
Patrick

Looks like your OS cannot correctly remove resident segment. Have you
RESIDENT param turned on ? Try to remove that to 0. If this doesn't
help, so, probably the only way to restart DB is to restart OS too :((.

Patrick,
Sounds like you have some things still hanging around in shared memory.
Run ipcs to see your semaphores etc. ipcrm semid etc. to remove them.
This should allow you to bring the engine up w/o having to reboot the
server.
Check the man pages for ipcs, ipcrm etc.
Good Luck,
