Re: Micro$oft SQL Server 2005 (64 bit version) to IDS 9.40 Linked server

We have not gotten linked servers to Informix to work with 64-bit MSSQL. I believe the reason is that the OLEDB driver that comes with the 64-bit Informix client is still a 32-bit driver. Since MSSQL is 64-bit it cannot utilize a 32-bit OLEDB driver. It's very frustrating and I've spent a considerable amount of time trying everything that I could think of or find. I have not tried support, either IBM or Microsoft.

Subject: Micro$oft SQL Server 2005 (64 bit version) to IDS 9.40 Linked server
Guys-
We have a new SQueaL Server 2005 64 bit install which need to
read some data from our IDS 9.40.UC8 instances running on HP-UX 11.11.
This has been no problem for grabbing data with the 32 bit version of
SQueaL: create a DSN for the IDS instance and use ODBC for the linked
server. The 64 bit SqueaL doesn't support ODBC, which has left us
floundering. The server with SqueaL has CSDK 3.0.FC3 installed and the
IDS server has had the most recent version of coledbp.sql run on it.
The IDS server has been set up in SetNet 32.
Has anyone gotten this type of configuration to work?
Here is a sample of what we've tried from the SQueaL side:
EXEC master.dbo.sp_dropserver @server=N'dcbeef',
@droplogins='droplogins'
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@server = 'my_new_linked_server', -- defined in SetNet32 on tab 'Server
information',
-- field 'Informix Server'
@provider = 'ifxoledbc', -- DO NOT CHANGE !
@datasrc = 'database_name@ids_server_name', -- name of the connection
defined in your system. (you must configure this.)
@srvproduct = 'Informix',
@catalog = 'database_name'
--@provstr =
'Host=my_ids_host;Server=ids_server_name;Service=sqlexec;Protocol=onsoct
cp;Database=database_name;UID=valid_user;PWD=password_here'
----
sp_testlinkedserver my_new_linked_server
--****THIS SUCCEEDS****
go
select * from[my_new_linked_server].database_name.informix.valid_table_name
OLE DB provider "ifxoledbc" for linked server "my_new_linked_server"
returned message "EIX000: (-674) Routine (oledbcollen) can not be
resolved. ".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_COLUMNS" for OLE DB provider
"ifxoledbc" for linked server " my_new_linked_server ". The provider
supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
We've tried dozens of different variation on this theme. Any suggestion
as to what we're doing wrong? Or does the 64 bit SQueaL just not work
for this?
Thanks in advance, EEM
