dbexport error

Reorganised the DB this weekend and had a problem with the Informix user. When I tried dbexport -ss system I got "Cannot create message file". Not very helpful. Exported using root with all the correct variables configured and it workedc OK, but I would like to understand where the problem is and how to solve it for future use. TIA

Sounds like informix does not have write permissions on the directory. Art S.
