Greetings, Has anyone ever performed an informix install using sudo? If so, have you seen or discovered any problems doing so? I've been told that I have no other choice but to perform the install using sudo and I'm a bit sketchy. My understanding of sudo tells me there should be no problems. But still, the unkown is bothersome. HPUX 11.11 IDS 9.40 FC2 TIA

I use sudo quite a bit... so far all the problems that I've had with it is because of the environment the target environment ends up with -- and I learned that you can configure sudo to affect that environment. There are some environment variables, the only one I can remember off-hand is LD_LIBRARY_PATH, that may not get passed through, by default. This is recognized as a "security" measure -- it's not a bug in sudo. It's also why programs that had to be run as root put it's shared libraries in /usr/lib. I've installed Informix software and executed programs connecting to Informix databases using sudo... and after configuring sudo to pass through LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, I have no problems in doing so. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Model-Bosch...." <tilman.model-bosch@sap.com> To: <ids@iiug.org> Sent: Thursday, June 08, 2006 8:49 AM Subject: AW: Installing informix with sudo [6900] > > Darren_Jaco.... wrote >> Greetings, >> >> Has anyone ever performed an informix install using sudo? > > Yes.
