Performance question

Informix
7.3 on Solaris 8.
prstat shows 3 oninit processes totalling roughly 33% in the cpu column.
Generally it is much less than this, and we're experience slowdowns. The
vendor software runs on this same server, and I see a number of their
processes near the top of prstat as well. I'd like to verify that Informix is
not being the bottleneck here.
I'm new to monitoring this, so I've been reading a book "Informix DBA Survival
Guide". I've done an onstat -u and I see 460-500 active user threads, most
with a Y in the first column of the flags -- meaning the thread is "waiting on
a condition". I'm surprised to see this many user threads at all -- we have
40-50 users during heavy usage -- would I expect to see 10 threads per user?
How can I find out what those three oninit processes are doing? onstat -g glo
shows three cpu processors (those that are showing near the top of prstat).
Nearly all the other 33 processes show no activity. Or... how can I show that
Informix is not the bottleneck?
Thanks for any suggestions.
