High Performance Loader is a niffty tool that loads/unloads data in
parallel mode from different media.
What's really nice about it is its Motif front end. You can define
load and unload jobs and they get stored on the Informix server and
can be used any number of times later. The front end also allows the
user to define formatting and column/field mapping.
HPL has a concept of device array, which is nothing but a collection
of media(disks, tape, pipes) that you want to use in a particular
load/unload job. You define the device arrays, based on the
architecture
of your system and HPL can parallelize your job.
Once you defined a job, you could also use command line interface to run
it using onpload utility with the right parameters (works well with
cron).
I hope that helps :-)
