Informix on Solaris/Intel
Posted in 1997
We are running on this platform. Solaris for Intel is one of Informix's lowest priority operating platforms. They definitely do not port every release to this o/s. We are running on 5.06. They also have a port for 7.20. We are planning to upgrade to 7.xx, but did not want 7.20 because of a fear of too many bugs. In defense of Informix, they have treated us nicely. They are doing a special port just for us to 7.23, that should be ready soon. Haven't had any problems with stability on 5.06. We do have one issue with istar - cannot connect from a 5.06 database to any of the 7.xx databases we have on any of a number of platforms. We also have 5.06 running on NCR 3445's ( 5.4 release 2.03 ) and have no problem connecting to our 7.xx engines with them. Currently the client is using Online 5.00.UD6 on SCO. I wanted to know if anyone had experience using Informix/Solaris on an Intel box. Some questions are: - How stable is it? - Does Informix support all the same releases on Intel-based Solaris? Do they support the 5.x line should we choose not to move to ODS 7.x? - How is the porting schedule? Does keep up to that of Solaris on Sun hardware?
