OnBar - Eject tape command that doesn't rewind tape

Hi All.
Our environment. HP-UX 11.0, IDS 7.30 (Workgroups).
We archive with "onbar -b -w". The archive goes to a 4mm DAT tape (the
device is known as /dev/rmt/0mn, no rewind of course) in the "ISMData" pool.
Logical logs are backed up to disk, in the "ISMDiskLogs" pool. The archive
happens at 9pm on weeknights.
My question - not hugely important. My supervisor would like the tape
ejected after a successful archive. I tried "/bin/mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn offl",
but this rewinds the tape before the eject, and any subsquent restore does
not work.
Does anybody know how to do an eject without a rewind?

This is not possible AFAIK. Even if you could eject a tape without rewind, when you reload the tape the drive would automatically rewind the tape. At least DAT and DLT drives work this way. Your only chance is to remember the number of logical tapes already written to the tape (nn) and issue a "mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn fsf nn" after reloading the tape. Paul
