Re: IDS License Revenue

Ian, You make some good points which deserve a response. My blog is mainly techie, plus any information about Informix I can get hold of that might vaguely be interesting to read, which might include sales announcements, conferences or pictures of herons. When it comes to quarterly results, I check how much I'm allowed to say and say it. Generally IBM finance dictates that breaking down a brand such as Information Management by product can only as accurate as "double digits" or similar. The rise of Informix revenue in the last year is a morale booster for people who work on Informix both inside and outside the company so I like to share it when I can to the level of accuracy permitted. Your suggestion to include some kind of disclaimer is a good idea and I will take steps to do that. It sounds like you would prefer a technical blog to avoid positive non-technical news about the company to avoid accusations of shilling. No-one suggests what I should write (except Jean Georges Perrin sometimes). I'd have called myself more of an Informix fanboy than a shill, but being an employee perhaps this is naive - I can understand how it would be hard to tell that from shill, particularly if you don't know me, so maybe you have a valid point. Hopefully if you read the blog in the future you'll be able to tell from the headline whether it is technical or not and choose whether to read. Thanks for the feedback Guy >From: "Guy ." <gbowerman@yahoo.com> >Tool, it's just a blog post, containing an accurate quote and an accurate >link, get over it. > Actually Guy, its a bit more than that. 1) Its a violation of your BCG, unless you were specifically given permission to post said "quote". With respect to the "accuracy" the git tool is actually right on this one. Its a number which can not be independently verified. So since you're still with IBM and the quote is still on your website, we can infer that you were given permission to post this "news". Regardless of the contents of the news, ethically the use of your blog to intentionally "leak" news that IBM wants to get out, but is not willing to make a formal statement, is weak at best. I mean, don't get me wrong. Its great news. And if anything, it says alot about how Janet treated IDS all those years. But more importantly it also says that you're a company shill and that any "opinion" that you post is of questionable value. You've been IBM'd. ____________________________________________________________________________________ It's here! Your new message! Get new email alerts with the free Yahoo!
