On-Line WGServer 7.12 Queries

We are using On-Line WorkGroup Server 7.12 with New Era Application. When a client executes a query it can take a very long time for the data to get to the client. The client just seems to hang while its waiting for data from the server. It appears as though the server must execute the query and get all the data before is passes it to the client? 1. Any way to speed this up? 2. If the server indeed has to get all the data first, any way to set up the server so it starts passing the data as it gets?

Any way to speed this up? - If cursor(s) are involved, see if you can do without them; - PREPARE the SQL statement once and beforehand so that it will not have to be parsed every time, then use EXECUTE if you can (EXECUTE INTO was just recently added I believe); - If you are using supertables (NewEra feature), their retrieve() member function retrieves and displays data much faster than reading the data in a separately written SQL and then displaying it using setText(), etc. - Obviously: check indexes/join conditions, make sure you UPDATE STATISTICS - Upgrade to 7.30. > 2. I do not know if the Workgroup Edition has this feature or not. I do not think there is anything you can do (see below for a NewEra feature) with your 7.12 Workgroup edition. NewEra note: Supertables have a feature where you can set a maximum number of rows returned from a query, so you can display (as an example) 100 rows at a time. This is only valid for grid form supertables... >
