4GL - Server or Client Side?
Hello again experts, We run a fairly old application, written in Informix 4GL, which queries a database (originally SE, but recently upgraded to IDS 7.3). The question I have is : Will the queries which are run from the 4GL application be executed server side or client side?? There is a counter which counts the number of lines read onto the screen, but it doesn't show whether the work is done at the server or at the client. Thanks for your help..... Regards, Kirk
Hi! Do you have the database on a separate system? SQL statements are executed by the engine, program statements (like counters, display, print ) are executed in the running program. Does this answer your question? The application is run on a client PC, and the database is held on an NT server. It just seems that there is a lot of activity across the network when we are running queries.
