DB_locale or local naming convention
Posted in 2013
A user asked whether DB_LOCALE could be set to mr_IN.utf8 (Marathi/India) on Informix 11.70. Replies pointed to the GLS documentation and explained that running the "glfiles" utility produces lc11.txt listing the locales the installation actually supports; the base server ships only a subset, so the International Language Supplement (ILS) must be installed to add more. It was noted mr/in exist as language/country codes but UTF-8 support for that combination should be verified via glfiles. On installing ILS, another poster said the ILS media includes a setup.exe (or a UNIX install script). No confirmation that the locale worked is recorded.

Hi, Can i set the db_locale= mr_IN.utf8? if yes, then how to use this setting. mr_In is the Indian Marathi language. I want to use this locale in informix 11.70 TCI1E. I saw the mr_IN locale in http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/zos/v1r12/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.zo s.r12.cbcpx01%2Flocnamc.htm
Hello. As you didn´t mention your informix version, neither your arch, you should check it out on your specific Information Center website, and search for GLS features. Here is a good link for 11.50 version: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.glsug.doc/id s_gug_272.htm?resultof=%22%61%76%61%69%6c%61%62%6c%65%22%20%22%61%76%61%69%6c%61 %62%6c%22%20%22%67%6c%73%22%20 Regards. Hi, executing the "glfiles" utility in an Informix (server) environment will create a file named "lc11.txt" in the current working directory. This file will contain information about all locales that are supported by the current installation. Please note, that the standard installation of Informix (Server) includes only a subset of all possible locales. You need to additionally install the ILS (International Language Supplement) in order to get support for more locales that are not included in the standard installation. After installing the ILS, executing glfiles (again) will also list info on those additional locales. For more information about ILS please refer to: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v117/topic/com.ibm.cliapinode.d oc/ils_ug.htm At the above link I see that there's a language Marathi (mr) and naturally also India as a country (in). Thus the name of the language and country code would be "mr_in". However, not necessarily all language and country codes are supported for every codeset. I'm not sure, whether "mr_in" is supported with codeset UTF-8. Therefore please check your output of the "glsfiles" utility. (The Informix naming for the UTF-8 codeset is "utf8", and this really exists, even though it is somewhat conspiciously absent from the ILS documentation at the above URL).
