Hi,
I have 3 CD's of Informix that I have to install on a AIX operating
system.
Question 1 - Im trying to install on a AIX 4.2 Motorola Powerstack with
Informix Licenses for AIX 4.3 for a Bull machine, is there any problem on
that ?
- Informix SQL 7.30.UC1
contains SQL.TAR - then, I execute the installsql (with license keys)
- Informix SQL 7.30 UC1
contains SQLRT.TAR - then, I execute the installsqlrt (with license keys)
- Informix SQL 7.31 UC4-1
Contains Informix Dynamic Server Workgroup Edition
I executed installconn, then installserver (with license keys)
Question 2 - I executed by this order, is it right ?
First of all, I set the environment variables INFORMIXSERVER,
INFORMIXTERM, INFORMIXDIR, SQLEXEC, DBLANG, INFORMIXSQLHOSTS ..
Question 3 - Are these variables enough ?
After that I runned the command mkdev -l aio0 because of errors on libc.a
Question 4 - I have invalid serial key running any on* file : oninit,
onmonitor, ...: I used the same license for IDS Workgroup ED on the
Connect and Server installation (I dont have other), is this OK?
Question 5 - What have I to configure after installation, I heard about
sqlhosts and onconfig, how can I configure these files ? Are there any
more files to configure ?
Question 6 - I runned the isqldemo that gave me an error about not having
INFORMIXSERVER on sqlhosts file or in the registry, and when I runned the
isql I had no output. Do I need to install more software ?
Thanks in Advance,

Question 1b / Answer 1:
Why did you execute the installconn script ?
Normaly you only need to install the server (installserver).

Answer 2:
You only need to set the following variables:
- INFORMIXDIR=...;export INFORMIXDIR
- INFORMIXSERVER=...;export INFORMIXSERVER
- ONCONFIG=....;export ONCONFIG
- PATH=$PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/bin;export PATH
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS is needed if the sqlhosts-file is not
in the directory $INFORMIXDIR/etc AND the name is not sqlhosts.
DBLANG is needed if you want to use message-files other
then the us-english message-files.
SQLEXEC is not needed in Version 7.x .
INFORMIXTERM is needed if you to use the terminfo-files
(INFORMIXTERM=terminfo;export TERMINFO).
If you don't set INFORMIXTERM, termcap is used.
Set TERMCAP=$INFORMIXDIR/etc/termcap if you want
to use the informix-termcap.

answer 6
if your server isn't running and correctly configured the isqldemo
script doesn't run.
