Selecting directly from > the table is no problem!! This may be a result of the differences between a table and a view. When you create a table, Informix automatically grants select, insert, update and delete privileges to public for that table. When you create a view, NO automatic privileges are granted. The owner of the view must grant the privileges. ( See the Informix Guide to SQL, chapter 11, page 8 and 29) All users except the owner should get the -272 error message from the view even if they can select from the table. You need to grant privileges to users/public on the view before they can use them. This allows you to set different privileges for a view from its underlying tables.
