JDBC installation's problem

Hi, i'm trying to install JDBC 1.5. My server is linux red hat 6.2 and the JDK version is 1.3. I launch the setup program "java setup" and follow the interactively installation of JDBC driver but at the end of this, the installation program will say "Cant find VM" Someone know somethings about it and could explain what i need to connect an IDS2000 on linux whith java applets..... ???? Thank you
