I don't have that much experience, but I do know that MaxConnect is
designed to reduce network traffic for more like 1500 users. I think you
may well not see a benefit with only 150 users.
Also, there are several architecture models you can use. IMNSHO, the only
one that makes sense is to have MaxConnect running on your application
server, thus reducing network traffic. This keeps the 1000's of user
connections local, and multiplexes them down to a vastly reduced number
over the network.
If for example you were to run your database server, MaxConnect and
application all on the same server (sometimes resources are not made
available for testing), then I can imagine that MaxConnect will only
introduce an additional overhead.
Also, if your direct connection is not saturating the network, or running
on a busy network, then you are not really testing the benefits that
MaxConnect can provide. I could go on, suffice to say that benchmarking
this type of setup should be done very carefully, or not at all.
