While it would be nice to use method #2, in my case with a 500,000,000 row
database on a 24X7 schedule, I cannot to do the export/import method in my
maintenance window. I have already upgraded a 7.31 test system to 9.21.uc1 with
no problems.
Actually I would prefer method #3 which is to build a new instance and import
the data and run them in parallel for the short time necessary to validate the
new install/import. This method, however, requires enough disk space available
to run both at the same time.
And OTC is correct in that you cannot go to Quiescent but have to shut down
completely.
