Re: SCO set up question

Log in as root. Then do: man stune then man idtune and you'll get some information. SCO where kind enough to leave out some key kernel parameters from their "program" that is supposed to be used to set these up. You can set them with the idtune command however. I believe the values you have set up are from the release notes and are somewhat out of line. Here is a copy of my /etc/conf/cf.d/stune file which contain these parameters (never ever edit this file directly): EVDEVS 224 EVQUEUES 216 NSPTTYS 192 NUMSP 320 NSTREAM 6144 NHINODE 1024 TTHOG 8192 NCLIST 1512 NSTREVENT 8320 NUMTIM 1040 NUMTRW 1040 SECLUID 0 SECSTOPIO 1 SECCLEARID 1 MAXUP 200 NOFILES 256 SEMMAP 200 SEMMNI 50 SEMMNU 50 SHMMAX 100000000 SEMMNS 256 SHMSEG 10 SEMMSL 150 NMUXLINK 320 NSTRPAGES 756 I have set some of these values myself. Others have just poped in there for some unknown reason and I have little or no idea what they do. These values work on a machine with 128 MB memory and on the order of 20 to 30 simultaneous connections to the database and little other activity. There are probably several things that could be done better. However the whole issue of tuning kernel parameters on SCO Unix is a black art with very little real information available. That's not my profession, so as long as it works reasonably well I am content. If we boot the machine there is allways a message about two of these parameters beeing outside the leagal range (as defined in /etc/conf/cf.d/mtune), but they still seem to take effect and everything works anyway. I don't remember which parameters, but they did have to be set higher than the maximum value given in the mtune file for the Informix engine to work. To me this is all a big grand hack from both SCO and Informix.
