NEXT FIELD in AFTER ROW
Posted in 1992
Hopefully, someone who is running 4.1 can answer my question. I was chatting with an Informix field engineer about using the NEXT FIELD to NOENTRY last field hack in an INPUT ARRAY. I was explaining that I had two reasons for using the hack. First, to start the input on an arbitrary row. Second, to make the AFTER ROW validation work. In my experience, if you have some validation in an AFTER ROW clause and use a NEXT FIELD, the row movement is not canceled. You are put in that field *but* on the wrong row. In my tests, when you hit the down arrow, the error message is displayed, then the cursor moves down to the next row before it moves over to the offending field. Just to be clear, these are not validations that I want to do with AFTER FIELDs. I prefer to design screens that let the user add thing in an arbitrary order. I only want to check things, like composite keys, when they try to leave the row. The field engineer sound a little sceptical when I was explaining this problem with the AFTER ROW. In any event, he assured me that problem was probably fixed in version 4.1, since "they had practically rewritten the entire thing" (I'm assuming the screen library). Could someone running 4.1 check this out and let me know if this is still a problem. I will post a summary in a couple week, if youall are interested. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ David Stockel Internet: dccrjc9@bpats.bell-atl.com of ADIA Information Technologies Voice: (215) 466-3216 at Bell Atlantic Fax: (215) 665-1329 1717 Arch Street 4-N-8 Philadelphia, PA 19103 Proudly serving my corporate masters
