Problem with SQL
Posted in 1991
Hi, We are having a strange problem with INFORMIX-SQL version 2.10.00A. We have a simple application that serves as a user interface for creating 80-column card images on tape. In other words, users key in their data on a PERFORM screen one line at a time. The screen (and underlying tables of course) consists of two fields, one 3 characters long and the other 77 characters long. Everything works as it should, *except* that the records are not being stored in the .dat files in the order in which they were entered! For example, if you entered your records like this (using PERFORM, meaning that you press ESC after each line): this is record #1 <esc> this is record #2 <esc> this is record #3 <esc> then you should have your records stored in the .dat file in that 1,2,3 order. Our records are not being stored that way. They are being stored in *reverse* order! We have several databases written using SQL version 2.10.00A and this is the only one that behaves this way! The *only* difference that I can see between this application and our others is in regard to its location in the file system. This one is stored in a subdirectory four levels deep: /dir1/dir2/dir3/dir4 "dir4" contains all screen & report files and the .dbs subdirectory. Our other applications store everything in "dir2" or "dir3". Could this make any difference? Our platform is a Unisys 5000/80 running UNIX V.3.2. A solution or workaround would be most helpful.
