More Broken Pipes!

We have been experiencing the same error ("Write error: Broken Pipe"). We have an ESQL/C program that scans a list of streets in a street table, and generates (inserts) intersection information into another table. About 5 - 10,000 streets are being processed. This program worked fine under Informix 4.0, and also works if the ESQL/C is compiled using Informix 4 and is run against a 5 SE engine. However, if we compile the program using ESQL/C 5 (or whatever the latest version is), and run it against the 5 engine, we get the broken pipe error about halfway through processing the streets. The problem is easily repeatable. Could the engine be running out of memory or something? Maybe it's not freeing file descriptors? We have determined that it is the engine that is dying (and thus breaking the pipe), not our program. We have another batch ESQL/C program that is also behaving oddly. Again, part-way through processing we get errors -408 (invalid msg type) and -468 (which is very bizarre -- something about trying to get user id from system, can't start engine, etc., which is obviously not the real error). Anyone have any ideas? Anyone else seeing these errors? _______________________________________________________________________________ To: informix-list@rmy.emory.edu From: aland@informix.com on Sat, Sep 18, 1993 8:50 AM Subject: Re: pipe error: Broken pipe ????
