It say that using kill while the : process is in a critical section will cause an Online abort. Does this : apply to sighup (kill -1) as well? Not necessarily. Processes can choose to ignore or handle any signals other than -9 (SIGKILL). If they don't register a handler, the default behavior is usually to get killed. In my experience, sqlturbo seems to ignore SIGHUP. It doesn't really need to handle it anyway since the frontend process will. The backend knows when the frontend is gone by receipt of SIGPIPE. I suspect the manual is really talking about SIGKILL when it mentions using kill to terminate an Informix process. I've heard that sqlturbo will respond to SIGTERM, and exit gracefully (I've used it before). I don't know if this is recommended, however. : David W Chan : Objective Research Ltd : dwc@cix.compulink.co.uk -- Jeffrey Sturm jsturm@garnet.msen.com
