This string stack is filled by using quoted strings (eg "##&.&&") rather than constants (eg using6) as it correctly pointed out above and also with parameters. This happened to us about 2 years ago and we had to remove all the parameters in our system and also the string constants. We didn't know about informix's routine (and neither did they!) at the time. However I don't know where the routine is and who found it. Demon: if you're reading or searching read this!! Ask Demon if it is possible to search old newsgroup information at 3:30am in the morning when there is very little traffic using some sort of local (at their site) batch job and then send you the particular mailings. This kind of facility may already be available on the NET eg like the listserver facility where you send a request in a standard e-mail and the server sends the reply back to you in a standard e-mail.
