The Informix CLI comes with a Unix version of the Intersolv :> DataDirect ODBC driver for Informix. It is an implementation of :> Microsoft ODBC 2.0. I :would prefer to use the native implementation, because if i chose cli, what :should i do if i only have a Informix ODBC driver. : :Also, i would like to know if my port 1525 theory? is true, does any of you :had ever made a client to call informix on port 1525 using standard :sockets, i think this would work. : :After the usual socket handshake, you could send sql commands into the :sqlexecd (daemon)?, this is the way it works, if it is, why should i need :informix cli? Even if you could you would have to follow a protocol. This protocol is, as far as I know not spesified anywhere in the Informix documentation. You migh be able to glean it out of the c-code generated by ESQL/C or even 4GL, but I wouldn't try. If you do want to go direct this way ESQL/C does so for you. I haven't tested, and heavent heard of anyone who have, but there is no real reason why ESQL/C should be faster than the CLI (or UDBC from OpenLink or other similar implementation). To the extent they do any more processing at all than is done with ESQL/C I would think it would be totaly swamped by the access times of the database. The advantage of the CLI appart from (some) database independence, is of course a call level interface instead of embeded C. Whether this is a real advantage for you or not depends on what and how you intend to use it. :Any comment will be apreciated, please send a mail to carenas@usa.net, :also, so i will check for it faster.
