Both articles should be somewhere in the IIUG software archives. Given this nostalgia, I hope you'll let me get away with this little plug :-) Anyway, in two words, the point in my follow up was to add to Kerry's points the concept of application framework (not an invention of mine, so don't blame me :-), a skeletal fully functional application which the programmer can *extend* by "bolting" to it the modules that characterize the application he/she wants to write without having to reinvent the wheel (Though this sounds a lot like a set of library routines, let me assure you, it is not). One of the beauties of this approach is that, since communication between the application framework and newly added modules uses a standard mechanism, *the latter are reusable too* Relevant to Kerry's discussion is also John Frantz approach to reusable code (John, we still haven't agreed on my commission :-), a modular set of tools that extends language capability. If this sounds interesting, you can find more info thru a dejanews search (around june '95), scan the IIUG software archives, and of course give a look to Kerry's article, John's site (www.rl.is/~john) and my own (see sig) Ciao, Marco ____________________________________________________________________________ Marco Greco <marcog@ctonline.it> rem radioterapia 39 95 447828 fax 446558 Informix-FAQ http://www.iiug.org 4glWorks http://www.ctonline.it/~marcog
