I am interested at turning on Auditing on one of our Informix engines (IDS 10.00.UC5 RH Linux ) I am curious what if any are the gotcha's? How does it affect performance? Are the audit logs useful? I thought I remember seeing a datablade or something that also did auditing, not sure where. Thanks -Peter
It dumps out to a dir/file of your choosing. Depending on what you flag to be audited, it will dump simple ascii records of it to that file. The only 'gotcha' I know of is that it will audit every db in that instance, including sysmaster. If you dump it to a separate file-system file and your db disks are on other disks, performance hit should be small. Performance hit will depend mostly on 1) how busy is your db and 2) how many "audit events" you choose to audit.
