shared memory not initialized error in oninit -v
Posted in 2011
A Windows XP laptop running IDS 11.50 Developer Edition stopped starting: oninit -v ran through initialization but the online log showed "listener-thread: err = -25572 ... Network driver cannot bind a name to the port, System error = 49" and sql_listener: ASF_LISTEN failed, so the server shut down. Suggestions were a bad/changed IP or hostname in sqlhosts, another program already using the Informix port, plus notes on the DUMPDIR permission warning (should be owned by informix) and the 20-connection Developer Edition limit. None of these helped; the poster finally resolved it by downloading and installing a newer build, 11.50.TC9DE for Windows.

12:25:29 Results: The size of individual logical log files is too small for

needed to perform the checkpoint.
12:25:29 Action: Increase the size of the individual logical log files so

Hi,
listener-thread: err = -25572: oserr = 49: errstr = : Network driver
cannot bind a name to the port.
You have named a servername or serveralias, which is not startable as a
socket listener.
This occurs when you name a specific network interface in sqlhosts and
reference it as active
connection (servername/servicealias), but the interface address does not
exist on your machine.
To prevent this, check sqlhosts if there is a type on the IP
adresses/hostnames or
if the adress of your network interfaces has changed.

Just to be clear, you are using the Developer Edition of Informix which is
for software development purposes only and cannot be used as a production
server. If you want a free server for production use, you can download the
Informix Innovator Edition. The message about already having 20 connections
seems to indicate that you are using the Developer Edition outside of its
license provisions.
That's not why you are having trouble starting the server up, but I thought
you should know this.

I know that I am using Developer edition. Typically in our company, we develop the programs on PCs and laptops where Developer version is installed so that we can modify table structures without interfering others work. Then when we are through and final with table structures we deploy them on model server where tables are created by DBAs and integration and system testing is done on model servers and finally when this gets through programs and tables are deployed on live production servers. Currently because of this problem I cannot use my laptop for select statement also leave aside table creation. Secondly I am not getting help how to delete logical / physical logs in IDS in Windows XP Developer edition. Net has lot for UNIX but very less info is available for Windows. Also when I am single user of the computer why are no of licenses crossing 20. Anyways this error are nowadays not seen in database. The error that are seen in olr_khed_stn.log are only "Network driver cannot bind a name to the port." I am not running any program which accesses database. Even after rebooting multiple times. Also today I tried uninstalling the IDS but still the problem persists. Also what permissions are required for 'D:\\\\IBM\\\\Informix\\\\tmp'. Windows Properties windows for the folder shows permissions as Readonly. 16:40:51 Warning: ONCONFIG dump directory (DUMPDIR) 'D:\\\\IBM\\\\Informix\\\\tmp' has insecure permissions 16:40:51 Booting Language <c> from module <> 16:40:51 Loading Module <CNULL> 16:40:51 Booting Language <builtin> from module <> 16:40:51 Loading Module <BUILTINNULL> 16:40:51 Could not disable priority aging: errno = 0 16:40:56 DR: DRAUTO is 0 (Off) 16:40:56 DR: ENCRYPT_HDR is 0 (HDR encryption Disabled) 16:40:57 IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.TC1DE Software Serial Number AAA#B000000 16:40:57 listener-thread: err = -25572: oserr = 49: errstr = : Network driver cannot bind a name to the port. Hi. Just a tip: another program (recently installed?) must be using the same port as your Informix engine, and is running before Informix. In case you didn´t change anything on Informix ports, look for other programs. Otherwise, choose any other available one for Informix. Please check all your running services, and watch for their communication ports. I´m sure you will find some some other, check it out. About your logical-logs, if you´re facing troubles to manipulate them via command prompt, I´d suggest you to install OAT (you could even administer all your developer´s instances, from only one installation) ;) that´s a great tool! 1. The Developer Edition thing was just an FYI, no worries. 2. Don't know why you are getting the 20 sessions warning if you are the only user, and you are right that is not why you are having a problem. 3. \\\\INFORMIX\\\\tmp should be owned by user informix, that is probably what it is complaining about. 4. Is it possible that you have used the IP address of the machine to configure its connections rather than its net name? If the IP address of the PC has changed since then that would explain the error you are seeing, as someone else suggested. Art Art S. Thanks for responding.
However, I have not changed IP address or hostname of the machine.
But still the problem persists.
I cannot format my PC because I have lots of applications installed which
cannot be removed.
I tried reinstalling the IBM Informix 11.5 software multiple times but the
same error is seen.
I had taken dbexport of the database before the problem as a part of periodic
safeguard for me. Hence data is safe.
Should I try installing newer 11.7 or I will face same problems with it ?
I reinstalled newer version of IDS 11.5 Developer edition iif.11.50.TC9DE.win2003.zip after downloading it from IBM website. With installation of this, the problem was solved.
