On ours, without compression, I found I could get about 4400000 using
128 (not 126) K blocks before it hits end of tape. Not sure if why it
wasn't closer to 5e6, but... I decided not to risk it and set it at 4000000.
This was done with just 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/rmt/XX bs=128k' and
noting the count of #blocks. Note for compression this wouldn't be a valid
test since all 0's compress quite well.
