Speed problems with Informix and COBOL running together

Hi!! I'm having serious speed problems with informix applications running along with COBOL applications on a RISC 6000 server. System specifications Hard disk size --> 8 GB Memory --> 128 MB Informix SE version: 7.14 for 8 users File system size where the Informix Database resides: 2.1 GB Informix Database size: 1.3 GB Daily User average accesing Informix applicaitons : 14 users COBOL version: RMcobol 6.5 File system size where the COBOL data files reside: 3.1 GB COBOL data files size: 2.4 GB Daily User average accesing COBOL applicaitons : 30 users You must consider also that both databases are on the same disk, positioned on the center of the disk. We made different tests, and when Informix was running by itself there was not problem at all. But, as soon as we started running COBOL, Informix became extremely slow, although COBOL does not get affected. I'm talking about two different applications running on the same server and on the same disk. One does not access the other. Please, give me any advise, we have tried averything and it remains the same. Thanks in advance! Ing. Karina -- You don't give enough information, unfortunately to really debug anything. I'd first look at CPU contention via SAR or another tool, followed by looking at disk usage via iostat. I'd also be interested in memory usage - 128 mb isn't a lot of memory these days. My gut reaction is that you've got a memory problem, that Informix is getting swapped out. Any possibilities of splitting Informix off onto its own disk? John Carlson Informix DBA WHSmith USA
