Not sure if you're wilfully missing the point as a joke, Paul. You're a bright man so I think you must know that he meant marketiting and advertising. The fact remains and, I have sadly come to the conclusion, will always remain that IBM has no intention of advertising and marketing Informix beyond its existing client client base. And, since DB2 is just an irrelevance in the non-mainframe arena, they are fucking up royally. But there's no telling them.

Never :-) And I've never been called bright, I rely on smoke and mirrors IBM have repeastedly stated that they will not market Informix :-) They believe that they need to market Information (Mis)Management Cheers Paul Paul Watson Tel: +44 1414161772 Mob: +44 7818003457 Web: www.oninit.com GO FURTHER with DB2 GET THERE FASTER with Informix. They can take the little bit of profits from it, and trim the fat by dumping it at a loss. This would be a great move because it allows IBM to get the millstone off their neck about the confusion over "which database gets to be on top and which database gets to be the bitch". It's just no business strategy at all to have either database product practically invisible compared to Oracle or even MySQL for gawd's sakes. IBM just doesn't seem to have any vision... they look like quitters, or just ignorants...

Why on earth would they sell it now, it's showing consistent double digit growth in revenue and IBM believe that this revenue will continue?
