Bcheck Error

I've been called in to try and repair an old Informix database that has not been maintained/administered adequately. I rebuilt the client's end-of-year data they blew away by running the procedure twice, from a backup-tape. I've also resolved some issues they had with some other maintenance. SQL that should have been running in cron jobs failing because a run in the past failed, and the database hit duplicate data on a unique index and stopped. Now I'm observing that the weekly script to rebuild the indexes is taking 4+ hours, and is generating the following mesaages on many of the indexes: Index 2 = unique key (0,4,2) Error in reading index file SYSTEM ERROR 25: read(index): Not a character device 1 index node(s) used -- 1 index b-tree level(s) used ERROR: 2 missing data record pointer(s) Delete index ? yes Remake index ? yes Index 3 = unique key (30,8,0) Error in reading index file ISQL say version 2.10, the bcheck syntax is "-ys". I've got a copy of the Informix Datbase Administrators Survival Guide. I suspect it's newer than this copy of Informix - no docs on site. Indexes and Data are stored in Unix files. OS is SCO. Is this output normal?, I'd think not. Any suggestions? Thanks In Advance, Stew Benedict
