RE: Oracle and IBM -- Grudge Match

Art, I don't believe that Amazon is talking about putting IDS in FPGAs as an 'appliance'. Different from the cloud, except that they're talking virtualization. But I could be wrong. It would be interesting to see a benchmark of IDS on an Appliance. Meaning that the engine is running on a FPGA which would give killer performance. One rumor I heard was that Oracle's Appliance didn't do so well at DW, so they tweaked it a bit for OLTP instead. But it doesn't matter. We'll never see an IDS benchmark. ;-) -G From: art.kagel@gmail.com Date: Sun, 31 Jan 2010 17:16:46 -0500 Subject: Re: Oracle and IBM -- Grudge Match To: im_gumby@hotmail.com CC: informix-list@iiug.org IDS has been on an appliance and is installable as an option on both the IBM and the Amazon clouds. The IDS Z-series appliance was announces at the same time as the DB2 based appliance. Art Art S. Maybe Jerry can get IBM to put IDS on the appliance instead of DB2... ;-) But hey! What do I know? My head is in the clouds. ;-) -G > From: jwcarlson1@yahoo.com.invalid > Subject: Oracle and IBM -- Grudge Match > Date: Sat, 30 Jan 2010 21:24:25 -0500 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > Didn't see that anyone posted this in the newsgroup. > > http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Data-Storage/IBM-Snaps-Back-with-Response-to-Ellisons-Ignorant-Remarks-about-DB2-758156/ > http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9149883/Database_wars_IBM_Oracle_s_Ellison_trade_zingers > > > Should I not be surprised?
