SE and RedHat9 won't install
Posted in 2003
Paul Watson couldn't install Informix SE 7.25.UC6 (and isql) on Red Hat 9, hitting the "incorrectly built binary" error; IBM bugs 163255/162102 were open with no workaround and a fix not expected until January 2004, support's only advice being to downgrade to RH 7.2. Posters explained the cause as RH 9's newer glibc (changed for the backported NPTL threading), noted SE/isql did work on RH 8.0, and suggested RH 9 was being dropped anyway; one mentioned IBM had a patched CSDK for RHL9/RHEL3 obtainable via support. No confirmed fix for SE on RH 9 is recorded in the thread.

Using SE7.25.UC6 on Redhat 9 I'm getting the 'incorrectly built binary' problem. There are a couple of IBM bugs relating to this 163255/162102. Apparently there is no workround and no fix date. Anybody got a working 7.2x SE install on Redhat 9, Oh and it must work with isql as well. -- Paul Watson # Oninit Ltd # Growing old is mandatory Tel: +44 1436 672201 # Growing up is optional Fax: +44 1436 678693 # Mob: +44 7818 003457 # www.oninit.com #
According to ITS the patch/fix won't be available until Jan '04, The suggestion is to downgrade all the affected servers to Redhat 7.2. Kinder of difficult for the customer to evaluate Informix when it won't run:-)) Oh well another lost sale:-(( Paul Watson wrote: > > Using SE7.25.UC6 on Redhat 9 I'm getting the 'incorrectly built > binary' problem. ISQL still has an issue, where user has to press ESC twice (sometimes) to accept the screen. Plus, if you read what is happening to Redhat right now, you would want to go with something else or Advanced Server ($$). The problem is that RH 9 is using a newer, incompatable version of glibc. This is causing all sorts of problems with a variety of commercial software packages. It may be possible to install the older glibc libraries in parallel... but it may be better to encourage your customer to drop RH 9 altogether, since RedHat is abandoning it in favor of Red Hat "Enterprise" linux. RH did that because they backported NPTL from the 2.5 kernel to their 2.4 kernel and needed thread-local variables in glibc. > It may be possible to install the older glibc libraries in parallel... > but it may be better to encourage your customer to drop RH 9 > altogether, since RedHat is abandoning it in favor of Red Hat > "Enterprise" linux. Surprise, surprise! RHEL3 also has a 2.4 kernel with the backported NPTL and a glibc that uses it. IBM has a "patched" csdk that works with RHL9 and RHEL3, but I'm sure you're going to need support to get it. I haven't tested whether the patched csdk works on Fedora, but I suspect that it probably does. -- Forte International, P.O.
