Assert Failure
Posted in 2006
A user on AIX 5.3 running IDS 10.00.FC5 reported the engine crashing a few seconds into automated load scripts (which had worked under AIX 5.2), with an assert failure "No Exception Handler" (mtex.c line 472, MT_EX_OS, context mem) always on the msc VP thread; the af file stack showed only afsig_handler/mt_ex_throw_sig with an unresolved address. Replies advised checking the af/shmem files for the failing session, searching the IBM knowledge base, opening a support case, and applying the latest AIX fixes because of known memory leaks in AIX password authentication. No resolution is recorded in the thread.

Which version of IDS 10? I had similar sporadic failures on IDS 10.0FC3.
What did Tech Support say?
[You're not using dostats by any chance are you, by the way ...? ;-)]
you really need to look in the Assert Failure file

This will give you more information about what session failed and what
it was doing when it failed. You may also get an idea if you have any
batch jobs running at 02:43 in the morning.
You could then use that information to search the IBM Infomrix online
knowledge base to see if that contains any information.
Alternatively, call your support provider.

Is it always the msc vp that dies?
Have you got the "latest" patches for your version of AIX, 'cos there
are quite a few reported memory leaks in AIX regarding password
authentication.
I am running some automated scripts which loads the databaseIgot the
script from some where, so not much idea about the scripts)But these
were running fine on AIX 52
The scripts run for a few sec and then IDS crashes.

Yes it always msc vp
Is this crash related to memory leaks?
Thanks
