Configuation of Front End

I'm trying to build a front end for my IDS 7.23 running on SCO UNIX. I have tried using MSAccess with ODBC connection and find that many queries and reports are very slow. I want to leave the data on the server as many of the clients will be accessing the database with just 56K dialup. Unfortunately access pulls all the data across the network before running the query. I have also tried some cognos tools such as impromptu. This product is good but the learning curve is high for most of the clients. Basically, I'm looking for a product that may be able to help me. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks, Jerry
Jerry, Using Access/ODBC you have 2 options: 1) Native Access query designer. Very weird SQL - too many parentesis, unnecessary INNER/LEFT JOINS or GROUP BYs... This SQL code might be edited by hand with dramatic performance increase (ex., from 16 hours down to 14 minutes). Joins between local (Access) and remote (Informix) tables should be avoided because Access fails to optimize such a query, choosing bad path. 2) EXECUTEing Informix stored procedures via ODBC calls or SQL pass-through. This may save your dialup bandwith - all queries will be executed on server side, giving final results to client. In this case, query uses Informix optimiser's brain and your can analyse and profile it; plus, you can use SQL statements ODBC-driver is not aware of.
