Totally agree with you. We have Informix, Oracle, and MySQL in our shop. Just to install Oracle it takes close to 4GB of space and Informix takes only 250 megs. Try going into Metalink and searching for a case !!!! I can't believe how slow Metalink is. (they must be running Oracle on it) The key of Informix is manageability. Oracle is very complex to manage and thats one reason why you would see a myriad of Oracle DBAs managing small Oracle environments. You wont see that with Informix environments. The thing to remember is the choice of the RDMBS. More often than not, companies make the wrong choice of selecting Oracle when they can get the same work done with Informix much cheaper, better, faster and with less headaches. Unfortunately they realize that after having spent millions already with Oracle migrations. However, I am in the process of installing Oracle on a Solaris box and to be honest, their documentation is not on par with the "industry leader". Note: I said "industry leader", not the "industries best". The install script also..., sucks. Am I a moron or do any of you feel the same way? Oracle installation is like Rational/Websphere. You need a huge amount of DiskSpace, as much Memory you can get and a specific Java Version. _________________________________________________________________________ Mit der Gruppen-SMS von WEB.DE FreeMail können Sie eine SMS an alle Freunde gleichzeitig schicken: http://freemail.web.de/features/?mc=021179
